Zelda - Link's Awakening Background



Zelda - Link's Awakening was the first and only Zelda game to be released on the original Gameboy. Despite some unique turns in terms of graphics and gameplay, the Link's Awakening was wildly successful, and influenced all of the Zelda games to follow it. For example, the graphics style had a strong "cartoon" feel, and many elements such as being able to jump for the first time in a top-down Zelda game were first introduced. Other notable departures in Link's Awakening from the first three Zelda games include elements of the storyline, which will be described in more detail below. Despite these changes, Link's Awakening was immensely popular. It was later rereleased on the Gameboy Color and then included updated, color graphics and a new dungeon.

Zelda - Link's Awakening Story Intro



Taking place outside of Hyrule and not being involved with the traditional Triforce-driven plot, Link was shipwrecked during a storm while traveling back to Hyrule after departing to train. He blacks out and later awakes in an island by the name of Koholint, in the house of Tarin. Tarin informs link that he must wake the mysterious Wind Fish by gathering eight instruments of the Sirens. It's here that Link's Quest begins in Link's Awakening...
